Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the camp located?

The camp will occur on the University of Arizona's campus in Tucson, AZ. The individual who registered the student for the camp will receive more information about buildings and classrooms and contact information.

How do I register my student?

To register your student, complete the registration form. Acceptance into the camp is first come, first served. Adults who register their students will be contacted by for more information and acknowledgment of acceptance. 
 

Pre-camp activities will begin mid to late April. If you register your student and they cannot attend, please let us know so we can open that spot up to one of the students on the waitlist. 

How much does the camp cost?

The camp, swag, Raspberry Pi 400, snacks, lunch, and a great time are all available at the great low cost of FREE! That is right; there is no expense to the students or families who attend the camp. 

 

This is possible through a grant from the National Security Agency and the National Science Foundation. Campers just need to be able to get to campus, get picked up, and be willing to work hard and have a great time.

How will information about the camp be shared to parents/guardians?

Specific information about locations and camp staff contact information will be sent directly to the individuals listed on the camper's registration.

How will parents/guardians be able to recognize camp staff?

All adults associated with the camp will wear camp t-shirts and name tags. The color of the shirt will change each day and be sent to individuals listed on the camp registration.

Will there be food?

As part of the camp experience, all campers will be fed throughout the day. We will provide the campers with a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack and drink. Campers will also be provided lunch daily. 

When and where do campers have to check in each day?

Check-in will take place each morning at the dedicated check-in location. Students need to check in to camp each morning by 8:30 am. Contact the camp director if a student is running late or cannot attend that day.

If a student does not check-in in the morning, the listed emergency contact will be called. Camp staff will be easy to recognize as they will be in a different color camp shirt each day and wearing name tags.

When and where do campers have to check out each day?

Check-out will occur each afternoon at 4:30 pm at the designated location. An adult listed in the participant registration is the only person who can check a student out each day. If you need to check your student out earlier during the day, you will need to contact the camp director and make arrangements.

What type of technology do the campers need?

All the technology used during the camp will be set up and available in the classrooms. Camp participants do not need to bring any technology. 

What do campers need to bring or leave at home?

​​​Camp participants should bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. We will walk outside to different buildings, so you may want to bring sunscreen. Leave anything valuable or distracting at home. 

 

Leave anything dangerous (guns, knives, fireworks, etc.) at home. We will have snacks, but if you think you will need more, you can bring them.

When should campers wear their camp shirt?

Each camper will receive an official camp T-shirt. We will send the parents/guardians information about when to wear these shirts so we can take our official camp photo. 

What else do campers get?

There will be some other little swag items that campers will get while attending. However, one of the big items that campers will get to take home is a Raspberry Pi 400. This is a single-board computer that participants get to take home to continue practicing what they have learned.
